Kirti Mandir
Robert Burns and MAHATMA GANDHI
Kirti is artist in residence of Common Ground Scotland. One of the themes for dialogue within Common Ground is ‘Robert Burns meets Martin Luther King’. Kirti’s contribution through his art has added another name to that dialogue, that of Mahatma Gandhi.
Kirti had previously done the sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi’s bust which stands at Saughton Park in Edinburgh. Common Ground provided Kirti with the inspiration to create a sculpture of Robert Burns, Scotland’s national bard,
Gandhi’s sculpture was unveiled in 22nd, October, 1997 by Dr. Indrakumar Gulzar, The Prime Minister of India, in the presence of Mr. Goyel, the Consulate General of India for Scotland, and the Lord Provost of Edinburgh.
Kirti’s bronze of Robert Burns, Scotland’s National Poet, was commissioned by Muirkirk Community Association and has been on display at Muirkirk Museum.
